Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation or breast enlargement is a surgical procedure involving the use of saline or silicone breast implants to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breasts.

Breast implants can be round or tapered (tear drop) in shape; they can be textured (rough) or smooth. Defining the patient’s body shape and bone structure as well as taking careful measurements help determine which implants to use and where to place them (behind or in front of the chest muscle). A very thin individual may need the implant placed behind the muscle to achieve a more natural less rounded appearance to the upper portion of the breast.

PROCEDURE
• Our breast augmentation surgeon will make an incision usually under the breast in its crease; a saline implant is placed either above or below the chest muscle.
• The breast surgery takes about 1 to 2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia with return home the same day.
• Breast augmentation can be performed in conjunction with a mastopexy (breast lift).

RECOVERY
The bandage is removed after 1-3 days of the plastic surgery and stitches are removed after approximately 1 week. A surgical bra is worn full-time for 3-4 weeks following surgery. Patients should avoid lifting anything over their head for about a week. Most return to work within a few days, depending on the level of activity required.

RESULTS

The goal of breast enlargement surgery is to have fuller larger breasts. Many patients find augmenting their breasts improves their body proportions by balancing their top half with the bottom half, making clothes easier to fit.
