INTRODUCTION
BOTOX® is a unique treatment because unlike other
non-surgical treatments such as chemical/laser peels and
collagen injection, it corrects underlying muscle instead
of the skin surface. Only BOTOX® affects those wrinkles
caused by muscle movements (dynamic wrinkles). The most
common of these are those "expression lines"
of the forehead, around the eyes and between the eyebrows.
These wrinkles occur as the facial muscles contract when
we squint, laugh, smile, or frown
PROCEDURE
A small amount of BOTOX® is injected into the facial
muscles. It works by relaxing the muscles decreasing the
ability to frown or squint, thereby preventing the appearance
of worry lines, frown lines, and crow's feet.
BOTOX® affects only the ability of the muscle to move
not its ability to feel. And while the skin remains smooth
and unwrinkled, normal facial expressions are unaffected. No
sedation or local anesthetic is required.
RECOVERY
THE treatment takes effect in approximately four to five
days. Patients are able to resume their regular
daily activities immediately after treatment.
RESULTS
The results of BOTOX® are a more youthful, refreshed
appearance. The treatment lasts for three to five months
and can be repeated multiple times. Longer lasting results
may occur with repeated injections. It usually takes
two or three injections each year to maintain the smooth,
youthful appearance that is desired. A welcome side effect
for many patients is the disappearance of "tension
headaches."
For persons looking for options other than surgery, BOTOX®
may be the answer to a more youthful appearance without
the risks of other procedures.
