Sclerotherapy - Spider Vein Treatment
Attractive legs can be yours again. You no longer need to be embarrassed by spider veins. Sclerotherapy is a quick and easy non-surgical technique used to treat spider veins. Approximately one injection is administered for every inch of spider vein—anywhere from 5 to 40 injections per treatment session.
PROCEDURE
• Using one hand to stretch the skin, a saline solution is injected into the vessels with a tiny needle.
• A cotton ball and compression tape is applied to each area of the leg following the injection.
• Patients feel a small needle prick and possible a mild burning sensation.
RECOVERY
In addition to the compression tape applied during the procedure, tight fitting hose is prescribed to guard against blood clots and promote healing. The tape and cotton balls can be removed after 24 hours. There may be some bruising and redness at the injection sites.
Prolonged sitting and standing should be avoided as should squatting, heavy weight lifting and pounding type exercises, including jogging. A second series of injections may be performed following a one-month healing interval.
RESULTS
The saline solution causes the spider veins to collapse and seal themselves off. The body then reabsorbs the collapsed vessels.
