Tummy Tuck

An abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" is designed to resculpt and contour the abdomen. It is a major surgical procedure that involves removal of excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightening of the muscles of the abdominal wall.

PROCEDURE
• Surgery usually takes 2 to 3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia with return to home the same day.
• A horizontal incision, running from hipbone to hipbone is made just above the pubic area and another around the navel.
• The underlying abdominal muscles are then tightened and the excess skin and fat are trimmed away.
 
RECOVERY
Patients are required to wear a support garment for several weeks following surgery. It is normal to experience swelling and a tight feeling for several weeks as well as numbness for several months. Most patients are back to work within 2 weeks. Most can resume normal exercise at 4 weeks.
 
RESULTS
An abdominoplasty will enhance body contour by making your abdomen firmer and flatter. When loose skin and abdominal wall weakness are limited to the area below the navel, a mini-abdominoplasty may be performed. This involves a shorter incision and recovery time. Abdominoplasty, whether full or mini, produces excellent results for patients with weakened abdominal muscles and excess skin and fat.
