What is Breast Reconstruction?
Breast reconstruction surgery is another surgical procedure that can be done to reshape a woman’s breasts. It can be done using an implant, like breast augmentation, a woman’s own tissue, or a combination of both of these options. The current medical knowledge and surgical techniques can create a breast that resembles a natural breast.
How Much Does Breast Reconstruction Cost?
Breast reconstruction costs vary from person to person depending on the techniques utilized, whether an implant is placed, and other factors. At Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery, we know that pricing for breast reconstruction is often a barrier for patients who are considering the procedure. We are proud to offer numerous payment options to our patients, including financing through CareCredit®. We can discuss pricing and details on what your specific breast reconstruction surgery might look like during your one-on-one consultation.
Am I a Candidate for Breast Reconstruction?
The breast reconstruction surgery procedure is a great option for any woman who is self-conscious about the size and shape of her breasts. It can help restore self-esteem and improve body image.
How is Breast Reconstruction Performed?
Breast reconstruction is done by making multiple incisions along the breast. In cases where an implant must be placed, skin is first expanded, and the implant is placed. It is gradually inflated with saline over a period of a few weeks to stretch the skin. This expander is then replaced with an implant in a second surgery. Another method of breast reconstruction, called flap reconstruction, uses tissue from another region of the body like the abdomen, back, or buttocks, which is then tunneled under the skin or transplanted to the chest. It typically takes two to three hours and is done under general anesthesia.
What is Recovery Like After Breast Reconstruction?
Breast reconstruction has similar recovery to other breast surgical procedures like breast augmentation, breast reduction, and breast lift. Most patients are able to return to work after a week or two. Lifting anything overhead is prohibited along with strenuous physical activity or exercise.
How Long Will My Breast Reconstruction Results Last?
Breast reconstruction results last for many years and can last for a lifetime. In some cases, other procedures might be recommended. Discuss what is recommended specifically for you during your consultation.
